The true story
about Korky (Chiyoko R A Bmoc of Bo)

Korky arrived in our kennel in November 1999, one day after Monique van Boxtel, the author of the Dutch Lhasa Apso Page, had imported him into Holland from America via Canada.

Korky had been completely physically and mentally neglected and could not stay with the Van Boxtel family as he had supposedly bitten both children.

To be expected especially after everything that the boy had been through in the 15 months together with all the traveling:

  • Transferred from breeder to new owner
  • Hastily traveling to Canada in order to make him in no time Canadian Champion,
with all the stress and consequences that followed.
  • Quickly thereafter a trip from Canada to Holland, where he was brought into a family
with two children, where the following fatal behavior occurred.

Euthanasia was the only solution according to an emotional Mrs. Van Boxtel.

As Anke thought that the dog deserved a second chance, she offered to take Korky into our kennel.
The offer was accepted.

Korky's owner was so grateful that Korky would get a second chance that she immediately sent on all of Korky's paperwork.
In this way Korky was registered in the NHSB in Anke's name.
There was never any mention of Mrs. van Boxtel being a co-owner.
The owner was so grateful with the way that things had gone that six months later she gifted Chakpori a bitch from her own kennel (Bo's Aphrodite for ever glow)

In the meantime Korky still had problems:

  • Three broad spectrum worming treatments to insure that Korky got rid of his worms.
Due to this treatment Korky became sterile for a long time.
  • The socializing was very difficult and he only trusted Anke, it was only after months
that he allowed himself, albeit with great fear, to be touched by others in the kennel.
  • He was anti social towards other dogs.
  • He was completely malnourished and totally under weight.
  • His coat was abominable and had not been taken care of.

With lots of patience, hard work and tact Anke managed to get Korky so far that two years later he made a chance of winning at the clubmatch of the Pekingees- en dwergspanielclub.

Korky performed like a dream. He looked stunning and was awarded an excellent.
The results from this show ruined the relationship with Monique van Boxtel, after she saw how Korky had improved, she claimed, after two years, her co-ownership of the dog.

End of story

FACTS:

  • Korky did bite my two children. My husband saw Korky bite both of the children unprovoked in two seperate incidents.

  • His owner, recommended euthanizing Korky if there was no other home for him. Flying Korky back to the USA was not an option because of the condition he was in upon arrival in the Netherlands from Canada. Korky's weight upon arrival in the NL was several pounds lighter than when he was shipped to Canada as a puppy.

  • Anke de Wijs offered to help care for Korky at the Chakpori Kennel. After visiting Korky a few weeks later, the owner and I decided that Korky had improved so much that we agreed he could remain at the Chakpori Kennel with two stipulations. These stipulations were verbally agreed upon.

  • After several months of filing complaints with Lhasa Apso Canada and the Canadian Kennel Club, the owner was able to get Korky's CKC registration signed off by the Elliott's. When I received the papers, I personally drove to Chakpori Kennels to deliver them along with a check made out to AKC to transferring Korky's ownership to Anke & me.

  • Two strings were attached regarding transferring ownership of Korky:
1: I, Monique van Boxtel was to be his co-owner.
2: I, Monique van Boxtel would handle Korky at the dog shows.
  • The co-ownership agreement is documented in this letter from Chakpori Kennels addressed to the Dutch Kennel Club stating I was to be a co-owner of Korky.

  • Earlier the owner promised Chakpori Kennels a male from her breeding, but since they now had Korky, a bitch Ditty was gifted to them. The owner also paid for all Ditty's shipping expenses and AKC transfer fees. Ditty was a thank you gift to the Chakpori Kennel for saving Korky's life.

  • I was NOT even present at the particular show they mention.

I never confirmed with the Dutch Kennel Club if I was listed as his co-owner. I trusted my friends. I never dreamed that friends, who I had done so much for, would deceive me.

In October, 2001 that I discovered Korky had been registered at the Dutch Kennel Club only in Anke de Wijs' name. Someone faxed me a copy of a show catalog where Anke was listed as Korky's sole owner. I called the Dutch Kennel Club and they verified I was not listed as co-owner. I then called Anke de Wijs who called me a liar and denied I was to be Korky's co-owner. Since that call I have never seen Korky again. Also, a story was posted on the Chakpori site defaming me. Offending remarks were also made in my guestbook. A negative letter was also sent to the owner with copies to the owner's mailing list which included family, friends and business associates.

I can prove that the letter I got from Chakpori Kennels was signed by Ruud de Wijs, Anke's husband. Compare the handwriting on the letter to the handwriting on the card they send me a couple of months after they had gotten Korky.

Comments: Dear Monique,

Please stop telling everybody you are co-owner of Korky.
It's only a wish in your mind.

Email to the owner and relatives, sent by RHA de Wijs, on January 28, 2001

Dear B,

It’s a long time ago we wrote to eachother after the troubles we had with Monique.

Sorry you choosed Moniques side. It’s your right to do so, but we noticed a couple of days ago she started a campaign of slander, using her and your website.

Again it’s your right to think like her and to act like that. Anyway B, we do not agree.

But, ....an action demands for a reaction.

Our side of the story you will find on our website: www.lhasa-apso.nl . You can choose the english version of the webpage by clicking the english flag.

Sorry things went like this.

In our intensive correspondence about Korky, Monique, Ditty and our kennel we never have spoken about a co-ownership of Korky by Monique.

What you think to remember about that is only in Moniques mind.

The same thing about selling Korky and Ditty.

That’s Monique’s story.

When do you open your eyes?

To defend ourselve, we send a copy of this mail to all your relations. They might be interested too after what they heard about the Chakpori kennels.

I invite them too to visite our website.

Please let me know if I forgot one.

Ruud

Card from Ruud & Anke to me, which proves it is Ruud's handwriting that says "Copy Monique" on the letter to the Kennel Club.

Obviously, Chakpori Kennels sent a different letter to the Dutch Kennel Club transferring ownership of Korky. They intentionally deceived the owner and me. During this time they continued to take advantage of my talents, without any scrupules, having me design a website for their Lhasa Apsos and Miniature Horses. I also created advertisements for them to sell their dogs and horses at no cost.

Korky and Ditty have been used extensively in the Chakpori breeding program and produced beautiful offspring under the Chakpori name. However Chakpori Kennels has never acknowledged the dog's breeders and how they were acquired.

Korky and Ditty were excellent Lhasas in their conformation. They were shown only enough to be able to use them in a breeding program. Both could have finished their championships easily.

I personally entered and handled Korky in two shows after he was living at Chakpori Kennels. I'm aware of two other shows where he was entered, but I was never notified of these entries, nor asked to handle him.

I can live with myself, I have done nothing wrong except giving the Chakpori kennel the opportunity to breed these excellent dogs. I hope they can live with themselves knowing the have deceived the owner and me.

Can you imagine, they even asked the owner for another dog. The owner declined sending any dogs since no apologies were ever given despite all the documentation on the promises by Chakpori Kennels.

If anyone still has questions or doubts about this story, feel free to email me at jariweis@chello.nl

and the owner's guestbook entry was removed from their website...

Update November 6, 2003:

It seems that someone is playing a dirty game, as I just found an entry in the Chakpori guestbook which was NOT placed by me, allthough it shows my name as being the one who placed it...

Update September 5th, 2004:

Isn't it amazing that when someone has been gifted with a dog and that dog's picture is featured on their site with it's offspring that it's full name is not used. The Bitch's full name is BO'S APHRODITE FOR EVER GLOW. The breeders of her are B, Roxie Belshaw, D. McSorley & Rebecca Kraus. I consider this omission of the Kennel name on this Bitch by Chakpori Kennels a dishonest and misleading act. I am extremely proud of the dogs I have bred and their origins.

Update December 19, 2005

Apparantly Chakpori didn't learn anything and again Ditty is on their website without mentioning her full registered name, which is BO'S APHRODITE FOR EVER GLOW. It's a relief to read that this dishonest and misleading kennel is quitting. May God be with Korky and Ditty, we are praying that they will finally find a loving home where they can retire and enjoy the rest of their lives!
